National funding

Researchers at the University of Pavia have the opportunity to fund their research and innovation activities by accessing calls issued at the national level. The funding bodies for these initiatives can be Ministries, Regions, and private Foundations operating at the territorial level.

Structural Funds

The Regions support and promote research and innovation through the adoption of POR (Regional Operational Programs) co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds).

The main Structural Funds are:

  • ERDF (European Regional Development Fund): Promotes balanced development across various regions of the EU. ERDF support is focused on research and innovation, information and communication technologies (ICT), small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the promotion of a low-carbon economy.

  • ESF (European Social Fund): Supports employment-related projects throughout Europe and invests in Europe's human capital. In addition to employment, it promotes education, skills, and lifelong learning across Europe.

  • EAFRD (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development): Promotes the transfer of knowledge and innovation in the agricultural, forestry, and rural sectors; the competitiveness of agriculture in all its forms and innovative technologies for farms; the organization of the agri-food chain, including the processing and marketing of agricultural products; the safeguarding, restoration, and enhancement of ecosystems connected to agriculture.
