Gender equality plan
With the adoption of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP) by the Academic Senate, the University of Pavia has set the strategic goal of strengthening gender equality through a set of concrete and coherent actions.
In particular, six primary action areas have been identified to implement the GEP. In addition to the five action areas identified in the Horizon Europe 2021-2022 Work Programmes, the University's GEP aims to undertake targeted activities for dissemination, awareness-raising, and public engagement. The GEP will, therefore, have six strategic objectives:
- work-life balance and organizational culture;
- gender balance in leadership and decision-making;
- gender equality in recruitment and career progression;
- integration of the gender dimension into research and teaching content;
- measures against gender-based violence, including sexual harassment;
- dissemination, awareness-raising, and public engagement.
Each strategic objective has been further broken down into a series of specific objectives, which will form the basis of actions for the concrete implementation of the plan in the various dimensions in which the University operates. For each action, responsibility levels and outcome indicators have also been defined, which, during monitoring (ongoing and final), can serve as the basis for subsequent consolidation and review actions.
To ensure substantial implementation of gender equality commitment, the University is aware that defining strategic objectives must necessarily be accompanied by an understanding of the dynamic nature of gender equality and the changing organizational situations and institution priorities. Above all, in this continuous renegotiation process, the goal should be to achieve an organizational culture that is sensitive to gender equality issues and does not simply result in a series of rules and measures "imposed from above," but rather evolves into an environment where men and women have access to the same opportunities while preserving their peculiarities.
