Departments
At the Departments of the University of Pavia, both basic and applied research activities are carried out, spanning across all fields of knowledge, from humanities to natural sciences, from legal, social, and economic sciences to biomedical, pharmaceutical, chemical, and engineering sciences. The Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage, located in Cremona, is also part of the University of Pavia.
Functions
Departments are understood as organizations of one or more research areas, homogeneous in purpose and method, and related teachings, which may also pertain to multiple faculties or degree programs.
Departments promote and coordinate research activities, organize or contribute to the organization of courses for obtaining a doctoral degree, and contribute to teaching activities. Each department has its own bodies: the director, the council, and the board. Departments may be divided into sections, each containing groups of teachings.
