Excellence departments
Established in 2016 by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), the "Fund for the financing of university departments of excellence" aims to incentivize the activity of the departments of state universities characterized by excellence in the quality of research and scientific, organizational, and didactic planning, as well as with reference to the research purposes of "Industry 4.0".
As part of the 2023-2027 assessment, the MUR published the ranking of the 180 Departments of Excellence: compared to the previous round, the University of Pavia has improved its position with six Departments (compared to the 5 in the 2018-2022 assessment) each eligible for funding of over one million euros per year for 5 years, thus benefiting from a push towards innovation and continuous improvement in the quality of its teaching and research activities. The funds will indeed be allocated to enhance skills through new recruitments and the acquisition of cutting-edge research infrastructure, based on specific research projects developed by dedicated working groups, under the guidance of the Directors of the involved Departments.
