[05435] CLASSICAL AND ANCIENT NEAR EASTERN STUDIES

Students enrolled in the Master’s Degree Program in Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies study classical literatures and ancient civilisations, including Greece, Rome and the Near East, with a focus on Anatolia, Syria, Mesopotamia and Egypt.

The program enables students to develop an in-depth critical understanding of literary and documentary texts in their original languages, study the earliest pre-classical writing systems, acquire comprehensive training in classical philology, and gain knowledge of the political, institutional, cultural and socio-economic history of both Greco-Roman and Near Eastern civilisations. It also allows students to explore the survival and transformation of antiquity in Western culture.

In addition to official courses, students have the opportunity to attend seminars and lectures delivered by academics from other Italian and international universities. They can also contribute actively to ongoing research by preparing individual projects and presenting them in class, taking part in excavation campaigns and joining study trips.

Thanks to the Erasmus program and other international agreements, students may spend study periods abroad to improve their language skills and prepare for the discussion of their final thesis.

The average number of enrolled students creates ideal conditions for a direct relationship between students and professors, easy access to the rich study materials available in the library, the timely completion of exams, and the preparation of the final dissertation under regular and careful supervision.
