Health and Wellbeing

The University of Pavia cares about its students’ health. In this section, you will find all the information about the healthcare services available to enrolled students.

If you study in Pavia but do not reside in Lombardy, you can access healthcare assistance in two ways:

  • you can apply for temporary assignment to a general practitioner based in Pavia;
  • you can contact any general practitioner based in Pavia for a medical consultation, prescription or examination, even without being assigned to them.

Temporary assignment to a general practitioner

You can apply for temporary assignment to a general practitioner by going to the ATS offices in Pavia and self-certifying that you are domiciled in Pavia for study purposes.

To do so, download the Dichiarazione sostitutiva di atto di notorietà form, also referred to as the self-declaration form, from the ASST website and submit it to the relevant ATS offices.

The general practitioner will be assigned to you for a period ranging from 3 months to a maximum of one year, with the possibility of renewal.

Please note that temporary assignment to a general practitioner in Pavia temporarily suspends healthcare assistance from the general practitioner in your city of residence. When you return to your city of residence, you must restore your registration with the National Health Service at the relevant local healthcare authority.

This option allows you to receive free healthcare assistance in Pavia, just as you would in your city of residence.

The ATS offices providing this service are located on the ground floor at Viale Indipendenza 3, Pavia — counters 1, 2, 3 and 4 — and are open at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 12:30;
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 8:00 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 15:30.

Access to these counters is regulated by priority numbers. Please note that distribution of priority numbers ends approximately 30 minutes before the offices close.

For telephone enquiries, you can contact the following numbers:
0382 432332 – 0382 431350 – 0382 431351 – 0382 432453
Fax: 0382 432475

Consulting a general practitioner without temporary assignment

With your Italian health insurance card, you can contact any general practitioner based in Pavia for healthcare services.

The cost is:

  • EUR 15 for a medical consultation at the doctor’s office;
  • EUR 25 for a home visit.

You can request reimbursement of these costs from the local healthcare authority in your city of residence.

If you need dental care, the University of Pavia offers a special agreement for university students.

The Mono-specialist Dental Outpatient Clinic of the Department of Clinical, Surgical, Diagnostic and Paediatric Sciences offers a 10% discount on all dental services. Dental prostheses are excluded from this discount and are subject to a 5% discount.

How the agreement works

A 30% discount applies to dental hygiene services. For example, a first visit, tartar removal and follow-up visit costs EUR 63 instead of EUR 90.

In case of emergency, all students, whether Italian or international, can go to the Emergency Room.

The Emergency Room is located in the new Emergency and Admission DepartmentDEA, Dipartimento di Emergenza e Accettazione — of the Policlinico San Matteo.

How to access the Emergency Room

The easiest access point to the new Emergency Room is from Strada Privata Campeggi. After entering the hospital through the gatehouse, follow the road downhill towards the centre of the Policlinico. This will lead you directly to the DEA ambulance entrance area, which gives access to the Emergency Room.

Please note that patients arriving at the Emergency Room are not seen according to their order of arrival, but according to the severity of their condition.

If you are unable to reach the Emergency Room and need medical assistance or an ambulance, call 118. The call is free of charge.

Safety training

info

Mandatory safety training for students pursuant to Legislative Decree 81/08.

For the purposes and effects of Article 2 of Legislative Decree 81/08, students are considered equivalent to workers when they attend courses involving the use of laboratories, work equipment in general, chemical, physical or biological agents, including equipment fitted with display screens, but only during the periods in which they actually use such equipment or laboratories.

For this reason, students must receive safety training according to a protocol that complies with the one provided for workers.

Student training on health and safety in the workplace is managed directly by the Prevention and Protection Service, in collaboration with the University structures where students carry out their activities.
