Study and exams

Discover all about study and exams: the academic calendar, the study plan, exams.

Academic calendar

The Academic Calendar is a summary of various deadlines of activities to be carried out during the whole academic year, for example renew the enrollment, confirm the study plan, pay the tuition fee. Do remember to also check the academic calendar of your course/faculty on its website: the exact start and end date of lessons, exam and graduation sessions are decided by each faculty.

The academic year provides:

  • an exam session at the end of the 1st semester
  • an exam session at the end of the 2nd semester
  • an exam session in September
  • a special exam session in November for students who are about to graduate.

The dates of the exam sessions are available through the Student Portal.

Exams

How to register to exams:

You can register to an exam 20 days prior to the exam up until 2 days before the actual exam date.

Step 1: enter your Student Portal;

Step 2: go to the Questionnaire section to fill out the survey relevant to the exam;

Step 3: go to the Exam section to choose the session;

You can register to an exam in the Student Portal only if:

  • you paid all university tuition fees
  • that course is included in your Study Plan
  • you passed all propaedeutic exams related to the one to which you want to be registered
  • you attended the course, in case the attendance is compulsory

Results of exams:
Results of exams will be sent to the university email box via email.
From the arrival of this email, you will have 5 days to deny the result in Student Portal – Bacheca Esiti if you want to repeat the exam to get a better result. Without any action taken in these 5 days, the result will be confirmed and accepted automatically by the system. If after some weeks a passed exam is not listed among your passed exams, please contact the professor to check if he/she has registered the result in the system.
Students who fail the exam can resit it in the subsequent session.

Study plan

What is a Study plan?

The Study plan is the complete set of exams that you need to sit in order to graduate.

Each degree programme envisages a certain number of learning activities (course units, laboratories, other activities): some are compulsory, others are elective. The sum of the compulsory and elective activities represents your study plan.

When compiling your study plan, you can choose some exams from a predetermined list (optional) and others with complete freedom (free choice) in order to achieve the credits required for graduation.

You can also submit an individual study plan including courses that are not listed in your Study Programme In this case, you have to submit the official request (Istanza al Rettore) to the Student’s Affair Office and get the approval by the Study Program Board.

How to fill the Study plan

Regularly enrolled students must fill in their study plan every academic year on their Student Portal > section Study plan according to the deadlines set by the University in the Academic Calendar.

During this process they will be asked to:

  • Confirm or edit choices made in the past academic years (especially for extra exams - in Italian: sovrannumerari);
  • Select choices for the current academic year;
  • Include possible extra exams.

Once the plan is finished it will be necessary to end the procedure by clicking on CONFIRM, otherwise the study plan will not be saved.

The digital booklet will be updated with the added courses only after the deadline set for filling in your study plan.

Students wishing to edit their study path (i.e. changing curriculum) will have to send a request via Filo Diretto before the study plan online filling.

Students enrolled under condition in a Master’s degree awaiting to graduate from the Bachelor's degree can fill out the study plan online, according to the deadlines set by the Academic Calendar, but its activation will happen only after the finalization of their enrollment. Alternatively, the study plan can be filled in within 15 days after graduating from the Bachelor's degree Program with the corresponding update of the student’s career and termination of the condition, without any penalty fee. A penalty fee will be due after the 15 days.

The study plan must be submitted in paper form only in the following cases:

Students willing to select an individual study plan will have to fill in the study plan in paper form and submit it via Filo Diretto. After that, the fee of 16 euros for the revenue stamp must be paid from the student portal in the “Payments” section (see examples below).

Graduating students not enrolled for the academic year 2024/2025, can change one exam only or max. 12 CFU by filling out the dedicated paper form and paying the fee of 82 Euros. The amount to be paid can be found in the student portal under “Payments”. If the requested changes make the plan an individual one, it is necessary to pay a 16 Euros revenue stamp on the request together with the changes approved by the Teaching Council (in italian: Consiglio Didattico) must be paid.

Part-time students should write to Filo Diretto to receive the study plan template, if already set by the respective degree course, or the contact details of the reference person with whom to arrange it.

Repeating students enrolled in the academic year 2024/2025, only if they intend to change the last filled in study plan, they need to fill out a request paper form or the last enrollment of their study plan as regularly enrolled student, and submit the forms through Filo Diretto. If the changes involve mandatory courses of the study plan, then a revenue stamp of 16 Euros is due. The fee can be paid from the student portal under “Payments”.

  • Students enrolled for the academic year 2024/2025 can include max. 24 CFU per academic year within April 30, 2025.
  • All teachings related to the educational offering of the nationally programmed medical and health area can only be taken by students enrolled in courses in that area.
  • Among the 24 CFU, students of bachelor degrees can include extra exams offered by master’s degree courses by selecting max. 3 courses for the whole study period. However, in order for a year’s enrollment to be valid, the student must be able to take at least 12 mandatory CFU towards the achievement of the degree.
  • Extra exams are not to be taken mandatorily for the graduation purposes.
